From what I have seen, 3 seems to be the minimum for most ply tank builders knowing they have the added strength of a surrond holding the glass.
3.8 is the recommended safety factor. It all depends on your personal view of safety. Personally, I'd rather pay a few extra $$$ for a thicker piece and have no doubt when visitors or such are standing with their face glued to the tank. Especially after a few drinks while having party's or barbecues.
I had another look at the site you suggested. Why don't I have to add the full length of the tank, as 5 meters. Seems a lot less than 1 meter. Wouldn't that create more pressure ?
