Hi Everyone
Im new to this forum so please excuse me if I make a few mistakes when posting new threads. I am about to re-introduce myself back into the hobby after having a long break from it, and am about to buy a new tank for myself. I am looking at a 4ft Aqua One tank with the filter built into the hood, Jebo also make these types of tanks as well. I need someone with experience with this type of tank to tell me if the filters on these tanks are as good as having an ordinary cannister filter. or even a submerable filter. I have spoken to numerous lfs and keep getting different opinions as to there efficientsies. For a 4 ft tank I would expect to be gettimg around about 145 gl through it per hour is this correct?

what are the dimensions on the tank?

i would suppliment w/ a canister filter any ways. u can never have too much filtration

hi is this the tank you are looking at?

if it is i cant really comment on the filtration but the stand is made of compressed particle board and have seen one get wet and swell up first time in use, the stand was replaced under warranty with no hassles . the actual tank looks great but i just dont like the stands , if i got one i would paint it with sealer before setting the tank up.

cheers dan

Thanks for the advice, Dan and Lizadfishman.
Dan, yes that is the tank and stand Im looking at, I will take tour advice and seal it before filling it. thats a great idea! Lizardfishman, I may set it up and cycle it first add a few plants a few fish and run it for a few months and just see where I end up chemisry wise perhaps do a rate test on the pump just to see how much waster is being pushed through per hour. If things dont settle down and the water chemistry is a little unstable I may buy another small submersable just to complement the hood filter.

Thanks for your welcome guys. I am looking forward to setting up this tank and am also looking forward to sharing my experiences with you, and also getting plenty of good advice from the people that are in the know. I havnt had a tank since I was 16 years of age and im now 46 so its all like learning to walk again. Cheers Ashley.

Can you tell us what plans you have for this tank. The filter should be fine to a point, but people like myself over-load aquariums thus requiring more filtration. You might want to consider adding a cannister along with the stock filter. I have looked at these jebo tanks and the filters look legit.

I use to have a small Jebo tank like that and also with the filter built into the hood. In the beginning everything was great, but after a period of time... all the aluminium parts under the hood near the light fixture and the screws started to rust real bad! All the rust came from the humid moisture that evaporated from the tank and some times water splash into some of those areas from the the return nozzle.
So i suggest that you should just get a regular aquarium with a standard canopy, and a cannister filtration or even better... a Wet & Dry filter set up!

Hi Cougar579
My plan was to go either Discus in a lightly planted tank or Chiclids in a rock only tank, I havnt decided yet. Im not rushing into anything just taking my time with this to give myself every chance of sucsess. I have been looking at plenty of forums and sites and have been picking up tips here and there. Have rushed into hobbies before and have come unstuck, so its easy as she goes with this one. Ive seen too many people rush into this hobby and spend mega bucks to get going, only to sell the lot 6 months later after loosing all there stock due to having no idea what there doing.
