I have not dealt with this exact model aquarium so I can not give an opinion on it specifically but I have worked on aquariums just like it. THe tanks I have cared for with this "all built into the hood" did not function very well on the typically stocked aquarium. In terms of filtration, they were no better than having a modest sized "hang on the back" type power filter operating on them which in my opinion is not enough filtration for most aquariums. I supplemented them with better biological filtration, normally an undergravel filter, which also has it's own problems.
I totally agree on the problem with partical board type stands, I wouldn't buy it at all, they will soak in water, swell up and not only look lousy but also have weak areas that might risk tank breakage due to lack of proper support areas.
A pre-drilled aquarium with a wet / dry is a much better option that will not have these limitations for a fish aquarium (a serious "plant tanK" would be better with a differant filtration system) It won't cost much more than other properly set up aquariums and will be much less to operate (no replacement cartridiges,etc..)
All Glass has nice tank / lid / light & stand options that are very reasonable and many companies sell good quality wet / dry filters (aquaclear aquatics is about the lowest priced that is a good model). Not sure what is available in your area but I'm sure you have some good options.
I'm not saying that the aqarium your considering is impossible to do, I'm saying you could do better for not a whole lot more money.
