Puting a union 1/2 way up the standpipe would work even better. Unscrew the union and walk away.... This way you wouldn't have to babysit it to the correct water level...... It would drain say 1/2ways then stop.
Or just add another "T" with a ball valve in bottom of the standpipe. I think that would work best. Then you're just flipping valves rather than unscrewing anything. And you still get the ability to "poo swirl" all your filthies down the drain.
I've found that keeping rays will slowly push a raykeeper to selling them unless the maintainanace is super easy. I'm redoing all my setups to be able to do waterchanges by flipping valves. IF I can't have a life then the rays are going.... Sick of 2-4 hours of work after work. I want to be able to cut mainatainance to less than an hour a day, as I usually sit around and have beers for an hour anyways, so overlapping would really mean zero time spent doing maintainance..... LOL
