bulk carbon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if it works for you, and your fish are always happy, healthy, and growing, keep using the carbon. especially if you can get it at such a good price.

just keep up with changing it, since alot of people say it will leach what it removes back in once its used up. if its working, the carbon will only help your aquarium

i do change it at least once a month my new tank is cycling right now its a 265gal

the good thing about carbon is that you don't have to keep buying more.. when it becomes ineffective you take it out of your filter, rinse it well and then dry it in the sun and then you can use it again. (keep enough on hand so that you have carbon in the filters while the stuff you've taken out is curing in the sun).

????????? i have never heard this before. do you have a reference to it ???

usually it needs to be baked at high temperatures to drive off the doc's that were adsorbed and become reactivated :confused:

Carbon is really unnecessary, save your money..

this depends completely on the individual tank setup.... this is not universal advice for all set ups. there are many cases where doc's need to be removed and carbon does a great job.

I imagine food grade would be the same...60.00 for 5 gallons hmmmmm good deal if you use carbon...

there are many types of carbon.... each designed for a particular purpose. the functions may overlap a lot so most carbon be be ok just not optimized for all uses

john,

actually i don't remember where i got this info.. i know it's been in my head since we had our Koi ponds when we were kids.. maybe my Grandpa told me? he was a water and power guy in Los Angeles.

well if everyone thinks its harmless im gonna give it a shot since im used to using carbon why fix what isnt broken. i was only concerned about the quality since it is bulk. does anybody know if it can go bad if not sealed air tight or it gets damp.
