Hi. The death rate beleive it or not is almost nothing. Out of 288 worms I would be suprised to see any dead at all. We pack them a certain way and use heat packs as well.
We have run many tests in our hatchery in regards to shipping meathods. We have come up with a great way to ship them to ensure live arrival. We also do guarantee live arrival.
We do throw in some extra worms on each order just incase....... We have run many shipping "tests" to come up with great results.
As far as the protien issue, as you already know earthworms are known to have very high amounts of protien in nature. This is without any feed mix at all. When you buy from bait shops etc... These worms have been sitting around along time and have lost thier protien content. Also any worm that has to be kept cold it will slow the worms digestive system down and create bad bacteria within the worm, this is no good for your fish at all. You are adding bad bacteria to your tank and to your fishes stomach ! Our worms are hatched and raised in our facility. We use our feed mix to "boost " the worms natural protien content even further using ONLY ORGANIC foods. We add some natural vitamins to ensure the best worm possible for you.
Our website also expalins our process and about worms in general. Worms are natures "beef". When you add naturally to it's feed you come up with an awesome worm.
