Bulkhead fitting question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

I put 4 x 1 1/4 holes in my 480gallon plywood tank. :screwy: Man was that overkill!

But anyhow it will be controlled by the pumps flow rate.

i would do 1" its better to have to big a hole than to small. with a big hole its only going to drain as much as the pump fills it up. but with a small hole if it cant keep up with the pump then you have problems

to me the question should be not how big but more how many. seeing as how our runing hardly anything id just go 1" with a 3/4" return. whereas if you were to run a 700gph pump id go 2 1" holes. believe it or not you get more flow out of 2 1" holes thn 1 2" hole! plus 2 holes looks better then one huge hole

as long as you have a small sump (below 5 ft) then id be blsting that with 2000gph and as long as all 4 holes are outtakes then no reason why it wouldnt handle that. the reason why u need a large sump is because if you run 2000gph unless one that hits a huge amount of media through a drp tray and spreads out so it only hit s the media at 500gph then u arent doing any bio filtration

150 GPH isn't much, I'm sure 3/4" would be plenty. However, you may want to increase the flow in the future. Since the cost difference in fittings and pipe is negligible, I would definitely go with a 1" bulkhead and drain.
