Should I/can I put one 3in bulkhead on each side of the tank? should I use strainers or overflow boxes?
overflow boxes have better surface skimming effect, but consumes a lot of real estate, if you can spare the space why not...

I making my tank out of plywood so could I make overflows out of plywood and screw them on? What size would you suggest? Just realized... Wouldn't two 3in bulkheads take too much flow and overflow the sump? Could I just offset them?
Plywood weir box would work. You won't overflow your tank if you have a properly sized return pump.

Did you even read the thread? Maybe you missed a post in there about 3" flow rates. If this is how you do research I can't wait to see this build go together.
