helloo im very new and i might make a tank soon and im wondering what the bulkheads are for and do i need them? Also whats the point of having a over flow, and do i need it?
Thanks
Thanks
A bulkhead is just a watertight plumbimg fitting that lets a pipe go through the wall or bottom of a tank without leaking.
An overflow of one sort or another is used to get water from your tank into a wet/dry filter.
If you are not planning to use a wet/dry, you won't need bulkheads or overflows.

what about a canister filter (rena x3) for a 100g tank or so with 3 caribe piranah?
If you plan on using a wet/dry, sump filter, or any type of filter that requires water to be fed by gravity, you'll need an overflow of some sort. Search for threads containing wet/dry and you'll get a better understanding. Its much easier to see it than read it![]()
well thats not cool for me cause im 13 and im trying to use my money only, mom/ dad against fish so do u know what a good filter is that is in a close price range for a 100 gal+I have an XP3 and I hate it.
Other people swear by them. Personally I would much rather have a wet/dry filter. They are better at biological and mechanical filtration (IMO) and they supply oxygen better as well![]()
