Bulkhead question

I'm preparing to install bulkheads on my DIY sump, I have a question - probably a stupid question.....does it make any difference which way I install the bulkhead? It makes sense to me that the nut would be on the dry side of the sump, not submerged in water?

the flange side goes into the water side. nut side on dry side
