Aside from a monkey wrench, what else can i use to tighten or loosen a 3" wide nut of a bulkhead? The bulkhead is at the side of the tank and above the supporting brace so a long monkey wrench couldnt do it since the brace is on the way.

Thanks for any inout.

I'm having a hard time envisioning where the bulkhead is in reference to "supporting brace"? Assuming brace is running across on top, how is it in the way of bulkhead on the side and the nut is on the outer side of tank as well? Just trying to get an idea of the challenge to offer my .02 ;-)

Im installing the bulkhead backwards. Sorry.
I have a plug for the bulkhead and want the bulkhead on the the out side of the tank so the flange is inside making the nut inside the tank, directly above the support brace. I hope these help. Youre looking at the inside of the tank.

Try using a strap wrench.. basically like one for oil filters

To be honest it looks like you have a lot of room there for any wrench? Are you concerned with the size of monkey wrenches and glass? I use my (Irwin) plier adjustable wrenches for bulkheads in very tight spaces - so would use it in your case as well.

Strap wrenches don't always work well, but for your case, I agree that's a good option too.

The adjustable wrench I have has a max jaw opening of 1.5". The handle is 10". Basically, I want a wider jaw opening for the wrench, but it seems like the handle is gonna get longer too which is the problem. Longer than 10" handle will get in the way since it'll hit the brace of the tank.

Ive tried the oil filter wrench, it slips and I couldnt tighten the nut anymore so water is seeps out.

Don't put a wrench on it. Just hand tighten the fitting and it won't leak. Grab it with both hands, tighten it kinda snug with your hands and that's it.

Overtightening a bulkhead won't make it any less likely to leak.

Ok.

Ok, now that you said that im thinking the gasket could be the problem since I've tightened the nut as much as I can, however I can.

In some cases a wrench is required when hands simply don't have a good grip and space. But yes, just don't over tighten. Like I said Irwin adjustable can go much wider and you really dont need a lot of room to just get a good snug anyway.
