Bulkhead Sizing and Plumbing

^^ this is a good point. My 220 with 1" everything have internal boxes that are very difficult to clog up with the weir design, so I can get away with it. My 300 has (2) 1 1/2" drains teed to a single 2" line and gate AND (2) 1 1/2" emergencies for flood proofing. 4 drains total.

Even my 120 has a pair of 2" drains, but it's a bit louder than my other setups. It's in the garage so I don't mind the volume.

So 2" drains tend to be louder than 1" drains... Is that only when you don't have enough flow to fully utilize the 2" drains? I think 2" pvc can gravity flow about 3300 GPH- If you were close to that would 2" be quiet then?

Would it make sense to have a 2" drain that open near the rim level for emergencies but 1 or 2 smaller (1" or 1.5"?) drains that are for daily use? That way you have a big one if the little ones get clogged, and the little ones are quiet, and its only loud if something goes wrong?

Yeah the drain size just makes it a little trickier but with some planning you can make them all just about as quiet.
Water falling into the overflow itself and then I up the sump are the 2 places where you'll want up focus. And wherever air enters a drain line.

Running standpipes high in the box and running drains under the water line in the sump are quick ways to start cleaning up noise.
