Bulkheads on backwards

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I get keeping it as is if it holds water, but OCD would bug me. I know it's tight but it only takes a nudge with the right wrench, assuming hand turn didn't work while someone was holding the other end from turning. I'd take it out just to replace with new bulkheads, flange and seal both on waterside is your best bet.

If you call a plumbing supply, or do some reading you will find out the gasket is to be inside the tank. Fishguy306 is misinformed. It does not matter if it is on flange or nut.

If that is what your plumbing supply is telling you they are very misinformed ones. It very much matters whether the washer is under the flange or nut. Just because someone has a job somewhere doesn't mean they know anything about what they are talking about. Look at fish stores, how many people have jobs at them and dont know crap about the fish they are selling?

There are some other sources for you if you are still in doubt. The threads on the nut are not water tight. If you put the gasket on the nut side it will cause gaps under the gasket for water to get out. If that doesn't happen the threads will let water get through and then out under the flange on the outside of the tank. It does not matter if the nut is inside the tank or out so long as the gasket is always on the flange side on the opposite side of the glass from the nut.

In the end I just left it on backwards but washers was on right side. Was lots of hard work but I'm finally finished.
