Bulkheads

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do not agree with you here glue it and be done. To each there own tho

I prefer not to glue the bulkheads because then you pretty much have to destroy them if you ever have to remove them. In addition, you can easily remove threaded fittings on the inside of the tank to change out your return components. I know that when I was setting my tank up I changed my return setup at least five times. Although I'm using slip fittings, I did not glue them on the inside of the tank (if they fall off, nothing will happen) and continued to change them around until I got something I was happy with.

I also agree with threaded bulkheads, and even though threaded bulkheads are less permanent, also using unions near joints and bends can make alterations as your system evolves, and maintenance easier

I usually run unions every 4-6' and near any bend for ease of maintenance or adding other tanks.
The grey union below is part of my semi-auto water change system that sends old water directly to the garden or yard.

Remember to put the rubber gasket on the inside of tank, and tightening too much can do more damage than good.
Also if you do use threaded bulkheads, don't be afraid to be generous with the teflon tape.
