I just caught a 2 inched bullhead, not sure of the species (spotted?) but how do you care for these guys? He's in a little 7 gallon quarantine tank for the moment but will go in a 20 long for a growout in a few weeks.
Tank size, food, life span, etc., info will be appreciated.

Will eat anything you give it from pellets to fish fillets. Grows pretty quick so plan on a tank size of at least 120gals. I have 5 yellow bull heads with the biggest about 14". They like plants and a lot of cover. Very active for catfish and will also come out during day light hours. One of my favorites. Very easy hand feed.

I have a blackbull head that i got around 1.5" - 2" and it literally did not start to grow until i had it a year, it is about 6-7" now.

once it starts to eat and not hide all the time about 1/2" per month or so is normal i guess

Question: It's spotted? You sure it's a bullhead?

Anyway, they eat anything they can fit in their mouths. Bullheads do well on a varied diet of plant and animal matter. Just make sure it doesn't get too fat. :P

He doesn't have spots, but it might be a spotted bullhead. It is a bullhead though, just not sure what species.

Let's see pictures!

There's a good bit of variability in adult size among bullheads. Spotteds and some of the other southern species usually stay about 8-10" in length, while the widespread brown, black, and yellow bullheads may reach 18" or more, and the white cat can be over 24". So tank size will depend on a definite species ID.

Larger bullheads may live at least 10 years, not sure about the smaller species.
