My Texas cichlid is always harassing other fish or my hand, and some days she gets all grumpy and tries to beat up on my Oscar who is scared if her even though he is twice her size. Well I guess sometime today or last night she decided to pick on the Jack Dempsy, while I was not there to see it I think she lost.

My JD is about 8" - 9", The Texas has a round spot at the base of her tail I thought that was the sign of a female.

I believe that Texas is a male... and Yes JD are some of the best fighters pound for pound...no surprise to me!

Now in, joscars5 case, your female convict abusing your male JD is a true shocker to me. If that JD decided to start fighting her, the mouth size alone, would damage her whole face and head.

i only started dealing with cichlids about a year ago. gotta few cichlids and although my JD is by far the biggest never really attacks. perhaps its dominance goes without need for action lol.

I used to have a school of Rainbows that would beat up on the bottom dwellers and take their food. I also had a 3" true Flying Fox (the real ones, black with the gold stripe) that eventually started running with the pack of Rainbows near the surface. However, he would beat the snot out of the any of the Rainbows if they bullied or took food from any of the other fish in the tank. He was a badass. Then I got rid of the Rainbows for some Loaches, and he mellowed down a lot. Most awesome little dude I ever had. RIP.
