Help. I am not sure what to do.

I have a 10 gallon, 2 mollies, 1 danio, 1 pleco, 1 cat. The male molly is such a bully. I mean he is horrible. :irked: He never touches the pleco or cat, but he pushes the female around terrible. If he were human, i would turn him in for domestic violence. Hee seems to be getting worse each day. Tonight when I fed them, he was really zipping after her and chasing her away. I mean really chasing her. I don't see any marks on her where he did any damage, but I know she is stressed out. I adore him because he has a gold stripe on his top fin, and I have never seen that before.

When I first got him, he was okay. He was in the tank with 2 male swords, 2 female and his mate. He didn't start this until it was just him and the female molly (Helen).

Please help. I really love the guy, but can't let him stress the other one out.

i always hate to be the one to say this, but your tank setup is all wrong. 10g is too small for all those fish, especially the pleco. Most of your fish are also schooling fish, needing at least 4 or 5 others to feel comfortable. I imagine everyone but the pleco must be a little stressed. btw, what cat is it? a cory?

Let me explain whats probably wrong:The tank is too small id get a 20-30 gallon.Second, most of those fish are schooling fish(except for the pleco) so id get 4 more corys,5 more danios,And 4 more mollies.Remember,it will be better for YOU and the fish!

Does this apply to humans to LOL ... Need to point my wife in the direction of this thread LOL

i think it would be faster to point you in the direction of a good divorce lawyer :D

As said before, mollies are very prolific breeders (as are guppies, swordtails, platies etc). If not kept in AT LEAST 2 females:1 male (ideally 3:1) , a single female will be harassed to the point of death.
You need to upgrade your tank and then think about giving your poor danio some buddies, your catfish (if it is a cory) some buddies and then your male some other females to take the attention away from this one female. GL

A few thoughts here.

Wrong sex ratio with livebearers: Are you aware that males have a tendency not to leave females alone? This is part of their nature. I am sorry but mollies are not an option for a 10g. You must keep 2-3 females per male and this should be done in no less than a 20g itself.

Danios: What species is it? A 10g does nt have sufficient swimming space for them regardless of their size and number. These are schooling fish and should be kept at a bare minimum of 4, no lesser than that. A 20g would be the minimum in my opinion for danios.

Pleco: What species is it? If you own common pleco, then you must rehome it. Plecos excrete heavy wastes and a 10g is cramping for one that grows to 16 inches and above depending on which species it is.

Catfish: What species is it? More explanation needed here.

Simple solution: The whole stocklist needs complete revamp in my opinion.

A larger tank would help, if the bullying persists add 2 more females.
