I have two senegals around 6 inches now and they both have alot of personality. One of them actually plays a variant of hide and seek with me.

But when I move away, one of them (consistently) starts to bite at the other one. He actually bit and held on for a couple of seconds once. I wasn't too worried about it, but i just noticed that the victims tail is slightly messed up. Nothing major but just some tiny cuts here and there.

I was wondering if this behaviour was normal? Or is one of my senegals just an ass?:screwy:

well, ive never witnessed anything quite like that. i have seen my large sengal get sort of territorial a few times with a slightly smaller ornate, and even charge at a smaller BGK, but nothing like biting and shaking. i would be concerned, you might have a sengal murder on your hands. of course, it could be other things, but in short, id be very concerned

do you have enough hiding places? if so you can try rearranging the decor.

sometimes when there are only 2 bichirs in a tank, this could happen if one of them decides to get a little territorial.

your worst case scenario is that you have a psycho senegal, but may not be the case here. how often does it bite the other senegal? is it constantly whenever you move away? does it chase the other one down? or just once in a while when the two cross paths?

This is sort of what happens. I took these pics about a months ago, but the behaviour is more or less the same. Here's frame by frame stop action type of thing. It's just happens a bit more often now and the victim usually hangs out on top now lying on some plants. From time to time, the aggressive dude actually chases him around for fun... or something:nilly:
Anyways, I just found this behaviour curious, I doubt hes going to go murderlising the other sen anytime soon.

I think he's just territorial. For the most part, he only goes agro when they bump into each other. Sometimes he just snaps at him and when he has nothing to do, he snaps, follows for a good couple of seconds then goes back to his little hole... which seems to be the whole tank.

I have two main hiding places though and alot of plants that they can swim around and hide in.

my two males will nip at each other sometimes, i think they just get frustrated though, their constantly trying to impress my female endlicheri who's over twice their size

Never heard of bichirs fighting...they just might not like each other.

well ive always know senegals to be aggressive tword each other unless thay have enough room but bichirs are fin nippers so it might just be that, when ever mine see something moving thay snap at it even if its a plant being moved by a power filter
