community fish dont do well w/cichlids.Did the salesman at the store tell you that?lol.....anyway,that peacock or red empress that is doing what(bullying)?the venustus looks fine,prob female.the blue one is probably trying to breed,and where are the rocks?you need rocks in a cichlid tank.chasing is normal to a certain extent.remember these are somewhat aggressive fish

There are rocks I plan on getting more. They got buried again by the blue one. He does that. The peacock is getting beat on by the blue one and the jewel. The orange female I took out. And I know they don't do well, its just something to eventually eat and Chase around instead of the others. I put comets in there but they can't evade long enough to curb anything.

sometimes the easiest thing to do is to remove the problem fish for good. there's not always a what will and what won't work rule, you just have to switch out fish until you find a combination that works. danios are a waste of money, i've tried dither fish before, both rainbows and gaint danios. no one payed them any attention until they started snacking on them. within a week they would be gone.

There will always be a Alpha fish and ones at the bottom that are picked on, the key is to spread out the bullying over a bunch of fish. I would add more cichlids to balance it out.
Assuming you have the filtration for it, overstocking the tank is the best way to spread out the aggresion

I took the peacock back. The other three love each other so maybe they are just pals. Cichlid gang much?
