Sorry, I am grumpy this morning, sinus headache.
More info, they grow pretty quickly and a 10 year old should exceed 5' long, they will need heavy brackish or full salt by then. The coloration of adults is a dull mottled brown. they are very easy to feed and will take pellets, chunks of fish, clams, shrimp, etc., Ph is on the alkiline side, dH and salinity is variable but as they age they need conditions that more and more approach seawater. Not easily sexable even as adults, Not known to have been captive bred. Suspected to be pelagic egg scatterers. Temperment is semiaggressive towards similar fish, eats smaller ones. Temp. is sub-tropical to tropical so anywhere in the 70s.
 
Despite the big drawback of their size they are incredible fishes and with a personality to boot. Will beg for food and almost study you from inside the tank.
A local store has a 3.5 footer in a 2000 gallon tank and he is incredible. Mine is not quite that big but getting there. Mine will end up in that 2000 gallon or maybe on the 1100 gallon tank he also has in the store. Either I give my fish to him or he sells me the tanks so either way the fish will end up in a huge tank in the future because they grow too big for conventional tanks.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has any bumble bee groupers ? I have got a source that can get me some here in Australia and wanted to know what size tank these guys need. I have heard these guys can get to 9 feet (270 cm) long. Now this is a big fish ! Can they get this size in an aquarium ?

There more common name here in australia is the Queensland Grouper.
Scientific Name: Epinephelus lanceolatus

to give you an idea of the cost
a 3'' juvenille will run you at LEAST $350. and tahts a good price.
a 12'' will be around $1200.

these are extremely hard to find. you will see them a few times in the home aquarium if you are lucky. wes at RareFish has one around 12'', but he's never selling it.
 
The largest of all reef bony fish or fish with a skeleton made of bone, the Queensland grouper can be up to 9 feet (270 cm) long and weight up to 880 pounds (400 kg). This fish is grey/brown and slightly splotchy. There are many small black spots on the fins. The Queensland grouper has two dorsal or back fins. The first dorsal fin is larger and has spines in it. It has a big rounded fan-like caudal or tail fin. Juvenile or young Queensland groupers look much different. They have irregular black and yellow markings.
 
If i'm not mistaken the BB grouper is the juvenile form of what is commonly known by fisherman as the Jewfish. It routinely steals the fisherman's catch's and snaps the line.
