Its not a typo, the fish can be seen at our store, "RARE FISH". Its only a baby, and has lived in freshwater for the past 7 months and going strong. There are 3 other specimens in this country, shipped out by myself, which are doing well, one living with south american stingrays, and the other with large red tail cats and arowanas, the larger of the two is around 18" I believe, and has been doing well for the past 7 months also.

We're aware that they potentially grow huge, and we have plans for them as they grow. As far as them being "full salt water" when large, is based on limited studies and speculation, but there is "truth" beyond that.

True, A better way of saying it would be that I can find no record of adults being successfully kept in freshwater. That might be simply that no one has tried.
 
where were the freshwater babies found, fugupuff? what we need is a mad scientist on this forum that can stunt the bbg's growth and make it fully acclimated to freshwater. i also wished for a 600 gal. tank and that has yet to happen either.
 
They are also known as the Jewfish to most people who fish in areas where they live, and to divers.
 
thats what i thought! it was a jew fish or if you want to be technical a golith grouper! i caught one that was about 150 pounds last year!!

im from australia and we do have a version of grouper that lives in its whole life in freshwater in rocky lakes and streams cut off entirely from the ocean though they obviuosly were connected sometime. ive never caught one but ive seen them caught on fishing shows on tv that were 3 feet long so the freshwater doesnt bother there growth to much.
