I have a 100g 6' with a sump that is run 500gph but the tank is heavily stock and was wondering what i could do to get more gph. I though about adding another u-tube to my overflow box but how would i know what the gph is to match it with a pump? i am getting some scrubbies today to put in the lower half of the sump. the tank is stocked with 3 oscars, 1 jack, 2 convicts, geo and a green terror. the biggest in there is the oscars at 11" but everyone else is 5" or smaller. i dont want to add a canister filter either. any advice. i am getting them a bigger tank in about 9-10 months.

Increasing gph dosent necessarily increase filtration. What kind of problem are you having?

my nitrates are starting to increase a little still between 20-40 but i was just trying to increase the filtering. i do have an extra aqua clear 50 would that help. the tank looks a little cloudy. im going to be throwing in a power head here shortly so that should help a little.

More filters won't do a thing for your nitrate... Learn how the nitrogen cycle works before you spend any money.

Do you have a nitrite or ammonia reading? That could explain the cloudy water. Is the setup new? Could still be cycling? Or you might need more biomedia. What is your water change schedule like? Nitrates could be reduced by changing more water. Extra filtration won't help with nitrates.

i wanted to add a power head to get the water moving in some places i figured that would help too its not to help lower the nitrates. im going to start doing water changes twice a week. i thought it was bilogical part of the filter that help with nitrates. but all im trying to do is lower them a little. if more filter doesn't help then how are people running 3 canister filters on a 75?

they both are at 0. no this tank has been setup for months now. i took it done july to add different gravel, a new filter and move it. but i ran the old filter for awhile on it. i do atleast a 30% water change weekly. the cloudiness might be because i just lost my pleco and he always keep that tank spotless. he was an aggressive thing.

lots of filtration (IE 3 canisters on a 75gallon) is for extra mechanical filtration which keeps the water looking clean but still does nothing when it comes to keeping nitrates down....

to keep down nitrates you can either step up the waterchanges or get some (a LOT) of plants..

keep in mind that if live in agricultural (farm) areas fertilizer can get into the ground water and screw up everything for you..

ya i know about the farm stuff but there is no nitrates in the water. i have to filter my water with a pur 3 stage filter to help with chimicals in the water, lost a few fish when i moved over here. sucks but its only thing that works for now. ya i didn't know about the filters.
