maybe its just me...but if you live in an area with animals large enough to not only eat your kid but you...awareness prevails over "kill it before it kills me!".
the gator isn't going to be waiting for your kid to get off the school bus...in a dark alley...
Don't let your kid swim in a lake if you live in the south lol.

ya fair enough lol but every story I ever hear about a gator vs. dog its a Pomeranian getting shredded lol.
he still posts around here, though I believe we broke his soap box as he sticks to fish related topics so far.

Lol, in most cases it's smaller gators that have been chased out of lakes, ponds and end up in populated areas (backyards, bodies of water in neighborhoods). then the smaller gator grew up and is no longer smaller.

In this case (the story) the gator may not have been in a neighborhood.
 
saw a video of a gator scaling a 5 foot fence to get at a dog awhile ago. Tried to find it today but couldn't
 
by all accounts the thief was an idiot and the gator was hungry. Funny he called his girl friend, just to let her know where he was, "no babe I am not going to the bar, just going out to burglarize a few houses with Jack, be home soon, love you!,"
