man your enclosure is sweet, how do you heat it? and how big is the burm?

Thanks as you can see it is a home made enclosure. I used the space under my stairway and built the door opening. For heating all I use is a large heating bulb on the ceiling and also I have a UV bulb that runs during daytime. This burm is about 9.5 feet long.

Great work on the enclosure and the snake itself......just curious do you keep any other snakes?

Naw just 1. The only other reptiles are 2 small paited turtles and a sulcata tortoise. I just posted some pics of my sulcata in another thread.

I am thinking of getting something else...maybe a red-tail boa...I have a 135 gallon that I am not sure trust with water.

Red-tail boas are awesome and if you can keep a burm you should definetly get one......I only keep a leopard gecko right now but i'm gettin a ball python next week and if it wasn't for their size i'd be getting a red-tail........

Leapard geckos are cool!

Ball pythons are really cool too. But if there is any way you could squeeze the room for a red-tail...I say do it.

Walls posted a pic of his red-tail and his is amazing! Check him out on the 2nd page. This is when I was building the enclosure a while back.

Only in my presence does it roam, and when my son is at school or daycare or outside. He is 11. I have read all the horror stories they do exist...and will be careful thanks for the interest.
As far as the enclosure.
Under the carpet is sheet of plastic and simply...well...the tile floor. Then there are about 6 bricks laid evenly out on the plastic and plywood laid on top of that. And then I just lay the outdoor carpet on top if that.

For cleaning, everything can be removed in minutes and sprayed off with the hose outside. And then a spray bottle with about 5% bleach is used as dissinfectant. After 30 minutes it is sprayed off again, allowed to dry, and placed back in.

Yeah I been hovering around all over MFK sharing and learning more and more about the hobby. How's that red-tail of yours doing?

Safety first!! Glad to hear that you are a responsible Burm owner as well.

Next time you go to the Lowes by you check out the outdoor marine boat carpet. I wish I could post a pic of it, its a little more expensive but you can put it right in your washing machine and it doesnt fray on the ends.

Also if you get tired of the bleach smell check out Big Apple Herps, they seel stuff by the gallon that you just spray on and wipe of with a paper towel. Ive used it in the past but its a little "pricey" for me.

Your 135 could hold a boa for a long time. Check out the thread about rack systems there is a member that posted in the later threads that seems to be able to make a very nice metal cover for tanks. I would not trust one of the screen covers from the store with the plastic clips........Boas are STRONG and will eventually push the lid off and break the clips.
BCI's like mine are great snakes but if you can hunt down a BCC like a Suriname, those tails are SWEET!! Here's a great link if you want to check out some Suri's www.redtailboa.net
Suri's grow slow and are less forgiving about husbandry but they pay off in just how stunning they become......of course thats just my opinion. But when I think about it I would never give up my girl for any Suri now LOL!
