Burned Royal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not to up on breeding (I've never bred anything apart from fish and snails when I was a kid haha oh and guinea pigs and rabbits). I know the reproductive system is further down, I just weren't sure if there was anything that could complicate/unable her to breed due to the burn, so thought I'd ask my good friends on MFK :)

thanks everyone who has answered, but will still like to see more opinions, to be sure, before I put a reserve on her tomorrow :)

The only problem I could think of would be if the burn is still healing, it would be better not to put her through the stress of breeding, especially because there might still be a risk of her developing gangrene on some dead tissue. But I've never dealt with a burn on a snake. Just to be safe, take her to a reptile vet before you breed her.

Yeah a reptile vet would be a good idea. But she should be fine Jess. Ive seen breedings snakes and lizards that were pretty messed up and bred wonderfully. 3 legged ackies, burm with a huge kinked tail, turtles with serious cracked shells, and thousands of crested geckos breed without tails.

Good luck!

She mentioned that she wanted to wait 2 years before breeding. I think by then it should be healed.

Yeah that looks fine to me just a superficial wound... good luck on your breeding plans

Thanks alot, just gotta start feeding up and reading up now! Thanks alot guys, really appreciated!

A good rule of thumb to go by for determining what good breeding weight is, is 500 grams per 1 ft of length.

There's a whole lot more variables that go into a female's reproductive cycle though....temperature changes, male presence/stimulation, etc...there's a few good books out there to read if you are serious about breeding royals/balls.

www.newenglandreptile.com "The Complete Ball Python"
www.vpi.com "Pythons of the World: Volume II - Ball Pythons"

How long did you say the burn had been there? It's a nice looking snake though. What's the weight of it? Should be fine breeding her when time comes.
Heres a site that is quite a quick read. Remember this is one that someone has been successful, but there will be lots of ways etc. that differ between breeders.
