I have never had a tank crack but. I did a water change into a bucket with a hole in it...:nilly::nilly::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::screwy::screwy:

i am seriously considering tearing down my 55g because of the slight chance it could break. The tank is held up by a stand thats uneven and the floor it sits on is uneven as well. i am so sad to do this, but i cant afford a risk like this right now.

by saying the tank stand, AND the floor are uneven, you better tear that puppy down ASAP.

any tank i keep, i shim the stand to ensure theres no more than 1/4" difference in water height in the tank. 55g's worth of water pressure leaning to one side, rather than distributed just dont leave a warm fuzzy feeling for me.

wasnt there someone on this forum that had a very large tank on the second floor give away and it caused massive amounts of damage and mold? i think he had the tank full of expensive fronts... the pics were horrible.

i hope my tanks never burst, but i have them in the basement, on cement flooring covered by laminate wood.. so it wouldnt be as bad as some that are carpeted on the second floor.

I have had a 25g get a slow leak. I redid the silicone on the one side (12 years ago) and it has been perfect ever since.

I was filling my 320g after a water change when I heard this whooshing sound. Luckily (if you can call it luck) my 60g sump had burst at the bottom of the back side and the water was pouring out like a water fall. I shut off the water that was filling the tank and ran for the shop vac. The sump was nearly full so I lost about 50g of water onto the rug. Fortunately I have indoor/outdoor carpet in the fish room but I still could of got mold under it. I have checked by lifting one end but it looks fine so far (happened a year ago). I can't imagine one of my larger tanks bursting. What a nightmare.

I checked with my insurance company last year and they say that I am covered for water damage from the aquariums. I also put one of those alarms that go off if there is water on the floor beside the tank stand. If something happens at night it will hopefully wake me up.

I had a 110 gallon tank split a seam while filling it for the first time (used tank). Luckily it was a first story room with tile over concrete flooring, so it didn't really damage anything.
