so i went and picked up some burundi frontosa's from -baracuda- (good lookin out man) 5 for $30 at 2-3" and he also threw in 1 more and on one side it has a split bar. so one side has 6 stripes and the other side has 7 stripes. what will happen if i were to keep it and then it breeds will i have fry with split bars? Also, whats the cause of the split bar? is it inbreeding?.... If it is because of inbreeding im gonna pass this one on.

tha tis call mooning..and its cause by many interbreeding..its a bad quality front..
i dont recomend to use it as a breeder..you can have it with the rest..but don use it for breeding purposes if you plan to sale fry..

you can keep the front...just keep him in check

^^^ thanks! i figured it was due to inbreeding. im gonna pass this one on or just keep him by himself in my tropheus tank. the other ones are fine and are with my other 4 frontosa's from a different source. if and when the new fronts breed with my old ones will there be fry with plit stripes or no since theres new blood in the mix?

I have heard of quality fish occationally throwing fry with mooning or an extra stripe. What you have described sounds more like a extra stripe. Mooning is more a small (often circular or triangel shaped) white spot at the very top of the black stripe where the dorsal fin attatches. I have seen pics of wild caught and expensive high quality fish that had a extra stripe on one side and i have also seen them with mooning. I would keep it with the others and if it breeds see what the fry look like, if they are not good , then you can always look to getting him or her a new home.
