I picked up a Butis butis (crazy fish, crocodile fish, duckbill sleeper, etc) at the NJAS auction on Thursday. But I had to make an emergency trip to Boston, MA on Friday morning (I just got home about an hour ago) so I just dumped a bunch of Molly & Platy fry/juveniles (10-15) in its tank for it to eat. I was kind of expecting it to still be settling in to it's new home, but I came home to a tank with nothing but a Butis butis with a fat belly in it. Do they normally eat this much? Or did it take advantage of the extra feeders in its tank (in which case, how much should it be eating weekly/daily/etc)?

Thanks!

Im looking for more information on these fish as well. I would really like one of those, and have access to them here in wisco... But dont know much, and cant find much information on them on the internet.

The two I have eat like crazy (another tendancy they get their name from I guess). If I keep putting food in, they will keep takng it. But I limit them to avoid overfeeding.

I've never actually seen or fed a Butis butis in person but it seems that fish that supposedly only eat live foods will also settle for frozen foods (and maybe pellets). My bumblebee gobies for instance always eat frozen food. They see it drop into the tank and think it's alive, so they attack it.
You'd probably have a decent chance of getting the fish to eat any meaty food if it sees the food move.

My guys eat flakes, crisps, pellets, frozen brine shrimp, frozen bloodworms, etc. They are not picky. I did feed them live blackworms, bloodworms and brine shrimp initially but I decided to give frozen a try, and everything went for it so now I dont bother with the live stuff too often.

They also go to the bottom (often joined by the knight goby) and clean up any food that makes it down there. They dont stop until they get every last piece, lol.

Are these bottom dwellers? Ive heard of them referred to on here as almost "gobie" like creatures.
