Butti and Oscar Possible???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The oscar won't outgrow the butti. The biggest buttis I've seen were about equal to big oscars. I have seen one oscar that elapsed all others but thats one of those rarities, he was 4 inches wide. :) The butti will be just as if not more interested in you as the oscar. The problem is the butti will descale an oscar if put together. I would say that either would be just as interesting as the other. It would mostly come down to which you find more attractive. They are both on the top of my list of favorite fish. Enjoy whichever you get but don't put anything with a butti.

hey thanks! and thanks everyone for helping me out. I used to have an oscar who became sick with ich and i was gone over spring break and couldnt cure him  he was a good fish

Oscars just visually look more horrid every day as their colors fade to that nasty white/gray (there are a few exceptions), get the butti!

Every butti I've ever seen was extremely aggressive. EVERY SINGLE ONE. There might be a nice one out there, but it's best to just assume any butti will be aggressive. I wouldn't mix them with oscars.

In growth rate it will
The buttis i have had were never fast growers.

I agree with the no mixing

Mine allowed a striking range of fish with him however. Gourami, sydontis, clown knife and even my female jag until i moved her.

I've seen them tolerate tank mates, albeit very aggressively. :D
You know i almost forgot to add that i donated him to "Aquarist World" a couple weeks ago and i went in to check on him. Michael the owner pointed out all the fin damage to his Pimas and kind of mentioned it was my old Butti that was doing it
