I have a 7 inch buttikoferi in a 29gallon with a aquaclear 200(50 gallon) filter on it.to me thats alot of filtration.I heard that fish will only grow depending on the tank.would it be alright in a 29 gallon if i add another aquaclear filter on it for life.I was just wondering because i cant afford a bigger tank right now nor can afford to put it in my 75 because of the fish it it.

If you feed it properly, it's a dirty fish (waste producer, what goes in must come out).

The idea that fish only grow to the size of their tank is true, then they suffer and die.

If you can't keep the properly when they get big, find someone who can, give it to them and start over. Best of both worlds. Don't torture the fish for your monitary shortcomings.

Check Craiglist and freecycle.org. Maybe you can score a larger tank.

Good luck,

Dude...you are about an inch away from permanantly ruining this fish's life.
We all started somewhere and have made mistakes..now it's on you to right the ship and handle it properly.
Find that Butti a home where it can live happy, healthy life....If you really enjoy it maybe you could find a cheap 55 for it.
Also keep an on on that devil once it grows up...Devils like to make other fish float!
Good luck...
If you like africans you could keep some jewels in it with proper filtration..maybe your lfs will trade you straigt up

thanks would it be alright if i bought it a 55 this month

Ya that would be good...On craigslist in my area there are several 55's with accesories for between $35 - $100

it'll be cramped when full grown in a 55, better go for one with 18" width, 75 would be nice and wouldn't cost that much more
