You should keep her (it's a female), I used to breed these guys a lot and they were lots of fun. Get a male and see if you can breed them. If you do you'll have to set up the tank so when the male gets aggressive the female has an escape area.

How did you sex it? Here is a pic of mine is it a male? it's 11 or 12".... if it is maybe some fish love

this is another pic from my 265

he is really agresive towards other fish bigger then him.He killed a peacock bass around 15 inches,at the lfs before i got him.he loves cichlid gold.I used to feed him beefheart alot. One of the most agresive fish i ever had by far.I heard they get 16 inches?

Keep him. I had a beauty that I traded last year, he was 15" and around 7cm thick at the head. The store I traded him to put him in a 270g pond, with a large plec a TSN and a large male synspilum, who attacked him when they put him in, he took a few shots over the course of about 5 minutes then, when he got his orientation back, he opened his mouth charged the synspilum and took it's entire head in it's mouth and started shaking it about!!! It ended up in a back corner with the plec. They also said the other fish in the tank a 22" TSN might do him some damage during the night, I said I doubted it. I phoned the next day and they said when they looked in the moring the TSN was SHREDDED and cowering in the corner with the plec and synspilum, while the butti swam around the entire pond like "this is all mine". A week later a young guy traded a 11" dovii, he told them with authority that it would stand up for itself "no problem", the butti killed it within 2 hours. Last time I went in to see him they showed me him a) leaping from the water for food 6) attacking the front glass and jumping from the water to bite anyone who put a hand over the pond! I shall try to post some pics of him soon. He's now about 16.5" and they love him. Needless to say I totally regret that trade in....

People rave about the aggressiveness of jags, dovii, wyckii, micropeltes, aros, hoplias etc but big buttis will take on anything. Needless to say I totally regret that trade in....

i had a big one and i exchanged it for other cichlids.
he housed a 80 g' tank all by himself and tryed to kill any fish that i put with him.
