I got 2 tiny 1.5" Tilapia Buttikoferi yesterday and didn't realize I got such a killer until I started searching through here. I was thinking of housing them eventually in my 8' 240g with the bichirs. do you think that the difference in shapes of the fish help the compatibility?

Not always but in some cases yes. While the Buttikoferi is small and growout with the Polypterus it may work. But one day the Buttikoferi may snap and harrass the Polys.

seems like my cheap alternative to a dat may be more problems than they're worth? I knew they got big but didn't know that they're so mean.

I would not do it. They are killers of fish....the polys would not stand a chance against an adult.....mine killed everything....SD, Dats and even Sydont cats.....fish was a total disaster.

Absolutely beautiful fish but I can’t imagine any other fish in a tank with one. I had a 8-10 inch one few years back. Killed every other fish including an 8 inch pleco. I still feel bad for what he did to the pleco. Came down one morning to only a head and tail attached by spine. Thing used to attack my hand every time I tried to clean the tank.

looks like I'm going to have a wet pet. generally I'm not a single fish to a tank type guy but the wife really likes the cute bumble bee looking fish. I think the 150 will be his home until I find a 180. thanks everyone!
