Buttikoferis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I currently keep the "striped African" with an injured vieja argentea. The argentea was injured by what I believe to be another male argentea.

Now my 6 are only 4-6 inches long so maybe they are too small to be truly aggressive, but we'll see what happens, right?

Here are some photos of what I used to house with the Striped Africans.
Clown loaches + Striped Africans = no aggression...I think it's because of how well armed clown loaches are.

When they were little I kept them with polleni (also little) then I kept a 8 inch polleni with them, again with no problems.

Here's the large polleni and a trimac who shared the tank as well.

Here is my buttikolferi. its about 7-8" and has some aggression towards its smaller tank mates when feeding but does fairly good.

i find many people flat out say some fish cant be kept with others but they are not keeping to the rules of aggressive fish, lots of space and lots of mean tank mates. i currently have a rediculous combination going in my 180, buttekoferi, red devil, festae, arowana, flowerhorn, giant gourami, jag and recently a blue gill. all of these fish minus the aro and blue gill have been claimed as "fish that MUST be kept by themselves". bottom line is give aggressive fish other aggressive fish to live with, feed them well, and give them enough space, and yes i realize i'm going to have to upgrade my tank size soon and i cant wait.
