More addictive than crack....the Datnoid!! I just got my IT yesterday and already I'm itching to find another for my collection.

Me and HiImSean cleared out the stock at Atlantis. They had the best looking Dats I've seen in my adventures. Well I only saw them at two places.

The other place I saw them was at Asian Tropical Fish. They have some very cool fish there, but the tanks are dirty and packed. They have some Dats for $40 that are a bit larger than my IT.

Problem is, they are unstable and I can't tell if they are IT or ST or NTT or NGT or CT or AT!!

Should I buy one and hope it looks better when I get home and put it in a clean tank with some cover? Can you tell what type it may be by the price? Are some very rare and therefore more expensive?

Whatcha think??

Mike at H20 Custom Aquatics has some real nice Widebars(STs) if you are looking for some that are 8-16". A datnioide can stable out when it gets combfortable to its surroundings. You can get dats for a better price than $40. My LFS has some 4-5" indos for $20 ea.

Yes ST's are the rarest so therefor is the most expensive. the $40 dats are not gonna be ST's. Oh and so you know CT=Cambodian Tiger, which is an ST.

As far as estimating what Dat it is by the price, good luck. I have seen LFS sell all diff types of dats between a big range of prices. Most likely they will be NTT or IT because they are the most common. They must be really unstable if you can't tell which ones they are though.

in my experience you should have no trouble telling an NGT from any other tiger as they look quite different

They are almost black.... I'm sure the water quality is terrible and they have no cover....probably ten of them in a ten gallon. I almost want to "save" a couple!!

I bought a black Indo in the past-it never went stable until I moved out of area and took it with me. initially thought it'd change from being in a better tank etc. when i first bought it but the damn thing never coloured!

I would hate to pay all that for a fish that is gonna be unstable no matter what....they can be genetically inclined to never get good color.

I'm going shopping today....looking for a Dat or a Endli Poly... wish me luck!!!

TCzeli....I thought CT was for Controversial Tiger... Like a hybrid or something?

People do use CT for controversial Tiger, but I think originaly people reffered to it as Cambodian tiger, and people who didn't know the meaning assumed it was short for controversial tiger. I guess it is whatever you want it to be.

There is no crossbreeding between dats. (yet)

So why do they call them Controversial Tigers? Are they just oddballs of another type that are tough to identify?

chanes are if it black and unstable its IT

some tigers can turn nice as soon as you put them in the bag to bring them home

other IT will never get stable
