I work nights, so I feed the fish right before I go to work, and i do put my hand in the water to shake the food around a bit. and it did feel fine... I came home from work (6 hours later) all lights are off, so i go to bed, woke up, and when I went to go feed them that's when they were half dead..

my friend has one of those temp alarms, he said there junk. the alarm noise is so low, he said that he has to be in the fish room to hear it... they should be louder.. with all the bubble noise going on.. that's what he said and I trust him, he's been in the hobby now for almost 50 years...

the heater controller was still working, the probe just stopped working, I checked the fuse and still nothing, I plugged the probe right into the wall socket thinking that the controller might be defected still nothing... I had to remove the dead fish, drain some of the water and added a small bit to try to help warm it up a bit.. then I drained again, and left it low, so the heaters that I did have could heat the water.... 6 hours later they were all gone....

The problem with expecting the manufacturer to pay for the lost fish is that if they did, people would take advantage of it and claim that they had more expensive fish then what they did. We had a house fire about 12 years ago and had to have the claims adjuster out. He saw my tanks and started asking questions about another claim he was working on. The people with the other claim had a 55 gallon tank that they were claiming as a 200 gallon. There are a lot of dishonest people out there that try to get what they can for nothing which means honest people lose out on legitamate claims. It is also why insurance company's won't replace fish (but they will replace the aquarium but that is only for certain types of losses and dropping it don't count).

Something I found odd about these type of controler heaters is that I saw an ad for one(cant remember wher I found the ad) and they offered heaters at 100,150,250 and 300 watt heaters and the controllers were available for up to 200 watts. WTF, what about the 250 and 300 watt heaters they sell. Hmmm... I will always stick with Rena, I get an excellent warranty and they are easy to adjust. Sometimes cheaper is better and so sorry for your loss. Keep trying for that breed.

I had a very expensive all the bells and whistles 500 watt heater too...It was in the mail back to the store in less then 3 days and replaced with 2 250 watt ebo jagers. Can't go wrong with what you know will work!
