come on man.... lets be nice.... they are asking for info so lets give them straight up answers and info on how to keep a ray not just turn them away, we want more responsible ray keepers so lets teach them how to be responsible ray keepers rather then just turning them away right away

unfortunately jd7 is right. You should not even dream of getting a ray unless you have a 180g minimum. even that will be eventually be too small. Rays need a big tank not only because of the size they reach, but because they produce a lot of waste and need water stability. 55g will absolutely not work. Best to buy a big tank first.

Oh i know and agree totally i just think people need to remember that these people are comming to find info about stingrays and we should give them that and not turn them away, if they really want a ray they will have to buy a bigger tank I agree but there are nicer ways to say it then how he did

Sometimes tough love is better then no love.

If you want to "get into rays" please heed any and all advice of your Brothers here at MFK. We all have different styles but are all genuine in our efforts to guide you and ensure your success.

With that being said, please do not dare to "get into rays" without ample study. You will kill the ray you buy, you will lose finacially upon its death and you will get unending I-TOLD-YOU-SO's.

Please Brother, take your time and study these fine creatures first. Sweet deals are always available here. Do not be rushed or fooled by your LFS into making a potetially regretable investment.

Respectfully, FireMedic.

yea get that book and skip rays for a lil bit...

I started with a Laticeps in a 75 gallon. She out grew it in 9 months, when I went to a 195 gallon. And I wouldn't do a sand bottom. My ray made a mess in the tank. The LFS said to use fine sand and it was always suspended in the water from the ray blowing in it looking for food. It destroyed the cartridge filter I had. After this I bought the Book by Richard Ross "FRESHWATER STINGRAYS" and found someone who knew a lot about rays. My Laticeps out grew the 195 in less than a year. I am now in the process of building a bigger tank. Like everybody says bigger is better. Wish I would have know about this website sooner. Cost me a lot in mistakes from just following my LFS suggestions.

I have 2 motoro stingrays in a 320 gallon plywood tank (71" x 34" x 31"h) and I'm wondering if I'll need a bigger tank/pond. Water quality may be too big an issue with small tanks, not to mention not enough room for a fish that will be 2' wide and 3' long with the tail. Save for a big tank or build one (I'm trying to figure out where to put an indoor pond in my basement).

my 3" flower horn eat the eyes and gill's out of my moto'r

See you don't want to be like this guy. Thats what happens if you buy a ray without any knowledge beforehand.

Please for the ray and yourself just read up some before taking the plunge, you won't regret it!
