I found someone on craigslist who is selling a 125 gallon fish tank for 350 dollars.Today I am going there to check out the tank and I asked the guy to fill it up for water a few days ago,so me and my brother can examine the tank if it has any leaks of any sort. The guy said he had it set up as a aquarium, but took it down,to make it as a snake tank.If there is no leaks from the 125 gallon tank and I bring this tank home, can I just fill it up right away and start to cycle the tank or should I give it at least a couple of days to make sure there is no leaks? The fish tank will be located into the basement on non carpeting floor. So I am not 100% sure,if the level of flooring has a effect on this.

Would anyone know?I know people on here buy used tanks,so that is why I am asking this question,to make sure if its more than a few days just to test out this used aquarium,I may as well buy new then.

Well, first of all, it's saturday morning, so not everyone is racing to the computer to give detailed advice in the first 36 minutes after the post.

Second, if there isn't a nice stand or some equipment, $350 is not a good deal for a used 125. I paid $350 for my AGA 125 brand new delivered.

Third, no, there's no reason you can't just fill it up and start to cycle it. If it leaks, it leaks, but if it doesn't, you won't have wasted several days.

Buy some Seachem Stability and use it for the cycle and you can just go right ahead and start stocking it.

It does come with a stand, lights, hood, sorry for not mentioning that part,as for equipment for powerfilters not too sure, cause he converted it to a snake tank.So I assume he doesn't have it anymore actually. If I have to go out and buy a canister or even say a power filter,I did spot a aquaclear that ranges from 60 to 110 gallons or I will get a one of the fluval canisters I have spotted for 200 dollars or below,if I go somewhere else.Where can I get the seachem stability from?I usually use prime for any sort of metals, ect.

If it doesn't leak, buy it.

ok,wanted to make sure, cause people are claiming need to reseal it anyways or oh you have to do tests on a tank for several days,I really don't want to do all that,if I doesn't need it.

I just baught a used 125 a few weeks back!
if it doesnt leak and the seals look good (not rotted or anything) then you should be good to go! if the caulking on the seals look a little beat up then I would 100% re-seal it because find out you should have re sealed it after it is totally set up would SUCK! But if it is fine then LEAVE IT BE!

For leveling....Make sure the stand is nice and level then put a sheet of styro foam the length and width of your tank on the stand then place the tank onto of the styro foam.

GOOD LUCK!

As the others said, no need to fill it up to test, then drain and refill to cycle. Fill it up, check it out and start cycling :)

Congrats on the new tank!

Filters are notoriously overrated by the manufacturers. That Aquaclear you found that says it is rated for 60 to 110 gallons is suitable for a 55 gallon if it is lightly stocked. I would get at least a Fluval FX5 for that size tank, or probably a sump would be more appropriate but may not be a beginner choice.

Canister filters such as the FX5 are pretty easy to setup and maintain. HOB filters such as the Aquaclear are even easier but you will need at least 2 of them, probably 3 to really be adequately filtered.
