There's a cichla I want from a LFS but it has ick :(. They said that they'd hold the fish for a few days to see if it'd get better but the thing is, they keep all their tanks at 80* and they're all plumbed together so it won't be getting any salt or any kind of special treatment. Would it be wise to buy the fish and bring it home to my quarantine tank or would this cause more stress to the fish?

Thanks guys!

Andrew

unless u have a hospital tank for quarantine.. i suggest you dont... changes are u the ICH they have aren't the 1st stage, but the more later stage of ich... where it has infected not he skin, but the gills and the eyes...

I once ran into a LFS with baby cichla for a very cheap price... problem was that i didnt had a quarantine tank freed up and the fish had massive ich...

the store keeper later told me about half of them died.. and the rest some guy bought all of them... my loss i guess. but it wasn't worth keeping something where ALL my fish would be in affect and at risk of dying...

Yeah, I have a hospital tank set up with water temp at 86* and i've added some salt. I think I'm going to take the chance and pick this fish up.

ive done it, not with cichla but with other cichlids i really wanted. i just kept them seperate tank and the ich was gone in a few days. good as new! ich is really easy to get rid of if its early enough

Yeah, right now its pretty minimal that's why I want to pick him up soon. I'm afraid it'll only get worst at the LFS.

Id say go for it especially if it appeares to be in the earlier stages. Ich really isnt hard to get rid of with higher temps and salt. Good luck!

what kind of cichla?
Yeah what type does it seem to be?If I had a Qtank that I could treat the fish in I would chance it.Maybe you can get it at a discount.

No, any fish with a disease is a bad idea
