No, any fish with a disease is a bad idea
Good point but then again ich is not a disease.

I would go for it if the price is right.I would want to keep the fish in quarintine for at least a month. Good luck.

Try and talk the price down since it has ich. You can probably get it dirt cheap because the lfs probably expects it to die anyways. If you have a hospital tank do the fish the favor and save it's life.

I've done it and ich does not bother me unless we're talkin sensitive fish like loaches. I've dropped iched up fish in my tanks and a few days later, they're clear w/ no spread. I salt and heat my grow outs.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm going to swing by today to see if he got any better or worse. I already tried to talk the price down because of the ick but they said it'd clear up in a few days so no. I'll post pix once I get it.

I'm not shocked that they wont give you a discount and we all realize that this is the guys livlihood but I have seen plenty of situations where the lfs staff would rather have a fish that is in bad shape languish and waste away than to allow a customer to purchase it at a lower price.Good luck, with your resources you should be able to straighten him out.

Why not ask the LFS to hold it for you until the ick clears up?
He already said that that is what the store attendant told him will happen in a few days.It could clear up or it could get worse and kill the fish. The staff dont seem to be willing to treat the fish with medication, probably because of their tank system.

id have to agree. You can always find another. Remember its all about being patient

Who are you agreeing with?

I've been looking for this species for awhile and the price is still pretty damn good for a specimen of this size. I've set up my hospital tank and i'll be swinging by the store later on today.

dogofwar, the LFS said they will hold it for me to see if it clears up but I'm not sure that will happen since the fish isn't getting any special treatment for the ick. Cichla seem to be more susceptable to ick when water temps are below 84* and as they keep all their tanks at 80* I don't see it getting better.
