Buying corals

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I buy all of mine from from local people from a reefclub. Usually it is a lot cheaper. One of my first was a large rock full of GSP. Now it is all over the back wall ha, I think it looks pretty cool. As far as dosing goes I would use the kits off of this website http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/products/calcium-alkalinity-magnesium

I have one of the kits, all you gotta do is refill it every once in awhile, its super easy. Just squirt a little in your sump every day or so...

Hey what do you mean by grow quickly? I'm still a newb at reefing, but I have a small polyp colony, looks like thier called "Eagle Eye"....when you say certain species of corals grow quickly, do you mean like weeks or months?

Just curious lol

Valid question. I've had my orange and green zooanthid and frogspawn for like 2 months now and they look the same....

I agree. Lots of people use them and I am now going to be one of them soon. I bought the kit and will use it until I am fully stocked, then I will hook up my Calc. Reactor.

All depends on the conditions really. I will say like I did previously that I have a green trumpet coral that had 2 heads when I got it about 3 months ago and now it has 10 heads. So it is doubling almost every month and I don't consider the conditions ideal, pretty good, but not ideal. My Zoas took a while to get going from the frag I got because I moved it around a lot, but since leaving it in one spot it has at least doubled in the past month and a half. Again not ideal conditions, not under halides. My Colt Coral at least quadrupled in size in 4 months or so. All of those corals are pretty fast growing, but you can definitely see growth in weeks rather than months with most corals. Again it depends on your water quality. Keys being stability and very low phosphates and nitrates. I haven't been feeding them either, but you can to speed up growth.

Cool thanks for the info, btw do you know how to feed zoas? Well I got it about 4 days ago, and when I go near they close....any tips?

Most people dont feed zoas.

Mine catch food from now and then that is just drifting around. Are you sure you have zoas? Mine are pretty hesitant to close up.

If you really want to feed them I would turn down flow and drop some chopped up mysis onto them or something.

Agreed, cause most grow so fast anyway, there is no need to feed.
