You dunno Saskatoon prices... a ornate costs $110!!! It would save me money even to order just one fish and pay $30 for it and have it shipped for $60. I haven't bought locally in ages because the prices are just insanely high.

how big is that ornate? Here you can get for like 20-30$ :D around 6-7" and that price tax included too :D

well you will pay about $30-$50 for shipping that is just to get it on the plane and then you will pay another $30-$50 to get it off the plane and out of the airport with airport fees and if the fish is from out of Canada you will also have duty fees...

you might want to try and find a new LFS and compare prices...

Just make a road trip to Toronto, and then get a bunch of them, keep the one you want and sell the rest out to the people in your area, and cover the cost of travelling ^^

$700 RTG Arowana, I know you want one :P

I wouldnt say drive to Toronto lol, but I would maybe think about driving an hour or 2 if you can get better prices out that far, it would be cheaper then paying all the shipping fees...

I don't mind shipping fees at all. Petland is the only game in town for anything other than your typical neons (which run around $3-5/each I believe). I've just got a group order going with people to split the cost of shipping or make a big order myself. The $110 ornate is roughly 4", while the last one I ordered was $10" and fat for $30. Paid I think $10 for shipping, I'd say it was a fair deal!

You people in Toronto gotta realize you're in a big market with competition from the big chains and independent stores. I've heard you can get RTGs in the Toronto area for $700-800, I was told once by the manager at Petland that they can easily get a RTG in for a cool $3500. Heck, you can get a like a couple higher end Asian aros for that price. That's the type of prices you gotta live with here. Some other prices I've seen are $55 for fahakas, $120+ for small baby silver aros, $5+ for feeder shrimps, $90 for palmas pollis, $90 for Delhezis, $60 for senegals (before they sold them for $9 this year)... those are just some of the insane prices you gotta deal with. And with tanks? Let's not even go there.... lol

And I would never drive just to get a fish. You'd have to go to Edmonton or Calgary, which is a 5-7hr drive one way depending which city you're going to. If I'm there visiting family, then for sure I'll pick something up, which I have done in the past

Oh ya, I understand what you're saying. The smaller independent stores they'll cut you deals on quantity. But Petland's no dice, I really don't like the way they are runned. A lot of people I know order online as well, for the fact there's better selection and pricing even after factoring cost of shipping.

I like living in Saskatoon, but as a hobbyist I really wish I lived somewhere else lol

i recomend buying an aro only after you have veiwed it and its living conditions
being that they are so expensive
you dont want to risk a dying fish or loosing your investment
i would try kijiji and some lfs's first before going to extremes(like shipping and stuff)
You are answering a question posed 3 years ago. I would bet he has found out his answers sometime in the past 3 years.
