to each his own. i would much rather have a pair of rare true GT's than any goldsaum. lost mine last year.:(

my g/f loves GT
and i plan on getting one for my next tank (gonna be about 400gal )
so inform me whats the true one and whats the difference between them all
like iv seen some with red/white/orange on the fins....
just want to learn the most i can before i would ever buy one

I beleive a silver saum is a "true" GT, and a Gold Saum is a color morph variant of the two.
Edit: The Rivaltus is a true green terror.

A silver saum is just the white edged version of the gold saum.As far as I know,Aequidens sp rivulatus(gold saum and silver saum)
True GT is Aequidens rivulatusThe photo shown is the true GT.Rarer yes but I'll take the brighter colours of the gold saum anyday:)

true GT.jpg

Goldsaum, Aequidens sp "Goldsaum" = Orange lined Finage
Silversaum or Silbersaum Aequidens sp "Silbersaum" = White lined Finage
True GT , Aequidens rivulatus = Slightly white lined Finnage, slightly smaller, much more rare.

True Gt's were maily found in equador, and are not common in the hobby anymore. rapps recently imported some True gt's from peru and they have been makeing a small comeback within certain breeders here in the U.S for the past year. i was part of that until my soon to be breeding pair died. they are smaller growing 10"ish is lucky. most saums only hit around that though wild ones can hit 13" there is a long thread on another forum disscusing the entire matter between these fish. i'll dig it up asap.

I've always preferred seing the fish "in person" compared to ordering online. I'd be leery of getting a different fish online than the one i really want, unless you can be sure of what you're going to get. With GT's, colorations vary quite a bit regarding edging and markings. They're great fish tho, so enjoy it, and post pics when the deal goes down!

Good luck!:headbang2
