Ok, im wanting to upgrade my lighting on my 55g to the New Marineland Double bright LED bar.

http://marineland.com/sites/Marineland/products/productdetail.aspx?id=2054&cid=5457&mid=5528

Im assuming that when i install this, i will no longer have a hood or lids on my tank. My only question is, are these good lights, and are they bright? It says it comes with night mode as well, which i think is cool. Im also freshwater.

Just dont want my fish to flop out or the light fall in the tank. I was looking at the mount and it looks like it might fall off easy? Anyone have these or know about them?

mount is ok it definately wont drop into tank. invest in glass lids so fish wont get out and i have the single bright and its amazing on a 40 breeder. it will be so worth it

I just ordered two of the Marineland 36"-48" double bright fixtures from www.bigalsonline.com for my 125. It will be my sole lighting setup. Tank will be housing CA/SA cichlids. No plants. All the reading/research I've done confirms that these fixtures will be suitable for the type of tank I'm running.

You should definitely look into a glass top for your 55. I will be running the fixtures on top of my Aqueon Versa-Top. Check out www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com. I think they have a sale on the Versa-Tops.

Here's a great video review on the fixtures.

I love the Marineland double bright LEDs and have one on my 40g.

**It is very important to have a glass lid under this fixture. The instructions say that these should not be run on an open-top aquarium, because condensation will cause the bulbs to fail. **

i got the double bright 36-48 inch and i am not all that impressed with it for the price

Cant i just go to home depot and cut 2 sections of Lexan to use for a top? Also, i have to lift the top up everytime to feed them, that would suck.

online is one choice for the new tank lids, but alot of times you can get the measurements you need and get a piece cut locally for next to nothing, depending on your tank size and material you choose

Sure you can do that but the Versa-Tops have a hinge which will make everything easier. Feeding will be a breeze.

Unless you get really thick Lexan it will warp. Glass is cheaper and won't warp, just go to your local glass shop with the measurements.

Marineland LEDs look amazing, and the blue lunarlight feature is really nice for mimicking soft moonlight for viewing your tank at night.
