Buying tanks new from LFS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have been looking for a 180-220 used, I found 2 but then the sellers backed out....

so now I am going to go buy a new 220 since it will be a tank I will have forever unlike my 150tall. (if I wasnt a newb at the time I would of known it was really a useless tank.)

Check Ebay and Craigslist. Or better yet get the RSS feeds from crazedlist.org and set it up so it will alert you whenever a new post goes up. 55s are everywhere. Just keep looking. Or just shop around until you find a deal you are happy with. I have been looking for a 150g (not tall) for a while and I finally ended up buying one from a LFS for $365 brand new. That is cheaper than a lot of used ones so I just went for it.

There are a lot of flea markets on the weekends around here and there are always tanks of different sizes for sale, dirt cheap.Look for the flea markets in your area. Most of the tanks I have,I didnt pay a dime for the very first was one of those metal frame jobs with the slate bottom about thirty gallons I found it on the sidewalk put out for trashday along with two perfectly good fifty fives and various smaller tanks at different times.

ya I just got my 220 ordered today :D expensive but since it is new I dont have to worry about it leaking and it is covered under warranty for anything...

I found tanks on craigslist and this site. The majority of the tanks on craigslist appear to be over priced. People wanted and aquarium and paid too much. Then they want to get their money back out of it. I try to stick to a $1/gal when buying a used tank. I'll go higher if there is a stand, lights and other accessories included.

That's my gripe for around here, they are all overpriced. I try to only pay $1 a gallon also.

There is a sale in a town about 30 minutes from here that I going to today. They have a 55 gallon aquarium listed in the ad, so I'm going an hour early to see if I can get it.

You're in Michigan and you can't find a good deal on Craigslist? Look in the Detroit section. That's where all the good buys are. I got my 60g on Craigslist. It came with a matching oak stand and canopy and only cost me $120. Just keep looking... or wait for Petco's $1/gallon sale:ROFL:

Heck where do you guys live?
All the pet shops of my region sell like 20g tanks for 150-180$!!! :nilly:

i also live in upper michigan, when i was looking for a used 55 gallon i found people asking more for used tanks then brand new ones, i ended up buying a nice new tank.

I got my 55G for $186 and my 100G for $400. Both came with lighting fixtures and I never had to buy a stand. I still have both tanks and I have never had a problem with them. Also, there is a lifetime warranty on them. If you buy a tank off craigs, you might save a hundred bucks, but if it explodes, you can't get a refund, can you?
