hi i was wondering are there any negatives of buying a used tank?
is there a proper way to clean it before using it myself?
could bacteria or disease transfer over?

thanks

I would be more concerned with leaking issues. As for cleaning I just use a sponge and water. Rinse, rinse, rinse.

AGREED, check for leaks as soon as u get it...trust me on this!!

I just bought a used 75g it's a make work project!! i have to seal it !!!
Clean with vineger then rince rince rince!!!! :D

i have always cleaned second hand tanks with hot water and a sponge but no detergent.
i do agree though to check for leaks, just fill it outside for a little while

check for deep scratchs too they really show up once the waters in and with the lights

There is only one fish disease that can survive a dry tank for long. I can't remember the name. The tank must be disasembled and acid dunked. It is a freshwater disease.
Watch me get booted for forgetting the name!!!!!!

I would have to agree best to wash it out really good make sure you get any disease out and check for leaks before you even take it home, thats what I do, I bought a leaking 20gal once so I always check now.

If it leaks its not that big of a deal, they are fairly easy to fix....but check beforehand as a leaking tank is generally cheaper!

If worried about disease Hydrogegen peroxide makes an effective disinfectant
