I was cleaning a tank about fifteen years ago when I got hit by one of my RBP. You got very lucky he didn't take a chunk. Mine took a big chunk. Disinfect it right away and so you can see what happens when they take a chunk I'll post a pic of my scar. It was hard to focus on so I circled it.

You know you could have just circled it in paint and not on your skin lol

I believe that there is a lot of wisdom in this lesson....
I never got bitten. My current shoal of 5 is only 1.5 to 2 inches in length but I had some about 7inches before. I'd be sure to feed them really good before cleaning the tank and would scare them to one side while I work on the other. How do everybody else avoid getting bit?
