What south/central American have you kept that have had the most personality? So far I've kept over 20 species of them and I feel of the ones I've grown to adult hood, that herichthys cyannoguttatus (Texas cichlid) with that said I havent raised any of the larger cichlids to adult hood such as vieja genus or parachromis. I ordered a few motas from Dan from cichlidsoftheamericas but they died off one way or another before reaching over an inch. But anyway what was/is your funnest or most active SA/CA you have kept?

There have been a lot that have had personality, one of my favorites was my vieja Guttalatum (in my avatar). Always in-your-face bagging for food or glass banging. I also had an Oscar who was pretty awesome in terms of personality.
Here's my Oscar going nuts for no reason

Haha gotta love the ones that act like they're constantly starving to death. I have a EBA that acts like that right now ( no where near as crazy as your Oscar haha)

What size tank you have? So far my kronoheros Umbriferum have the best personality of any fish I've ever kept. They flared and followed me around at 1inch

As far as interaction I had an Oscar when I was in my teens that was like a dog. Would let you pet it, jump out of the water for food, and could be a bit of an *** at times too. Kept 50+ CA/SA cichlids in my time. Every individual fish is going to be different though. You'll have good luck with the amphilophus species as well.

Oscar would be #1 then Pearsei #2. My Pearsei was a character. He even lived with a turtle for some time until he started beating up the turtle (yes you read that right). He was fine with the other fish. They grow fast, do well with other fish, and was really interactive.

Tank size will determine choice.
For me, my haitiensus were quite personable.
There was also one that was shown at the American Cichlid Assn convention a number of years in a row, that when an onlooker it didn't recognize would come too close, it would splash water in their face. The tank needed to constantly be refilled
My hait

My current Paratheraps bifasciatus, glass bangs, always in your face but lives peacefully with much smaller fish.

Oscar, fh, butti, pollen and Midas/amphs all come to mind.
Also I know it's not a cichlid but giant gourami's wipe the floor for personality if you have room.

Oscars are beyond most if not all cichlid wise tho IMO.
