Here are some pics I took about a week a go (dark one) in the grow out tank and pix I took earlier today in their final tank. They are about 4-5 inches now. At this size can you guys verify what they are?

Thanks Oni Angel-Hannya.

From my reading they get pretty big around 20inches and thick,I have them in a good size tank, but how are they with a Black Aro when the pike get larger, other Cichlids and S. Dollars? The Aro is right around 2ft already and doesn't go after any of the other fish and the other fish are a decent size already.

Pretty much had them ID'ed at the first shot...;). Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela' are probably on of the most imported pikes, so its very common for someone to get them. As they get older they will lose the striping and patterns on the face, mostly turning an olive-grey color. Very cool looking, definately a robust, stout pike. MTN Pike has a HUGE one right now, maybe they will post some pictures of him...;).

What size tank are they in now? Being that they get so large, and are so stocky, you really need 125gal plus for these guys. Plus it will give the other fish room to get away. I haven't really had good luck with keeping pikes with my arowanas...hopefully you will though. The pikes will chase the arowana to the point that they jump from the tank...rather annoying....so keep the lids on tight! ;)

Would love to get these guys to the plus +16inch mark. I've had other pike in the tank that never bothered the Aro, they have passed, so I'm hopping these guys are cool, but with the size they might put up a challege. How fast does this species grow and at what point do they start to slow down?

Tank is a 300gal, 8x2x2.5high so it should be large enough for them but not large enough for me, want to get one twice as big. Lid has light on top of it and the hood is one solid piece only about 6 inches tall that takes too people to remove.

I might be able to get my hands on some more young Blk Aros in the next 2-3 months, would like turn my 300 into a Blk Aro tank with a pike or two, a P-bass possibly, a gar. I'm not sure if the mix of fish will work so might need to get a bigger tank.

you'll be good with that size tank, that's plenty of room to keep these big boys for life. Awesome Pike, im actually looking to pick one up here in the near future. Keep us updates with pics on the growth of them everyonce and a while if you can. Enjoy, thanks for sharing.

Oh, hey Ewok and PP, after seeing these picks, im positive that the Pikes at my LFS are Vens, imma have to go pick on up....

Here is an updated pix. One has HTH and is being treated in another tank.
