In next week I´ll probably buy me a new 240l tank (63g) (120*40*50 cm) for my pair of c.sajica. I have also serious thoughts of getting me a group of (4 or 6) salvini juveniles. when the sals have paired I will keep one pair and sell the others back to my lfs. My Q is: Is this a bad idea to mix salvini and c.sajica in that tank?

i would think that the Salvini would be too aggressive for sajica but i guess with lots of hiding places it could possibly work. I wouldn't do it myself but you might be able to make it work. Any interest in maybe trying some of the Astatheros species? like Altifrons, Calabrensis, Robertsoni? Jeff has alot of these guys right now and they are great fish.

I´m gonna use a background that togheter with driftwood and lots of plants would provide enough hideouts for any kind of fish. i want a bushy look of the tank ( are bushy the right english word?? :) ) Im rather new to ca/sa and cant find any info of the fish you mentioned. are robertsoni a variant of fm?

sorry but this sounds like a horrible ideal !!!!!!!!

the salvini is going to rip the sajica to shreads the first time they lay eggs !!!!

I'd want a 55 just for a pair of Salvini by themselves, minimum, so I would definitely recommend against keeping a pair of them with anything else around the same size, in my experience they're feisty enough when they aren't breeding.

My pick for Archocentrus sajica tankmates in a 60 would a single Amphilophus robertsoni, Thorichthys meeki (Firemouth), or if you can get your hands on them, I think any of the Thorichthys species would make excellent tank mates and have the right demeanor for getting along well in a 60 gallon tank. Numbers are up to you but you should be able to fit a few of these guys in there pending your taste.

Salvini's could work, I won't rule that out, but using 'cover' is basically boxing fish in more than they already are. If you put a breeding pair of Salvini into that sized tank, I guarantee your sajica aren't going to be allowed into their sight without a chase, and Salvini are very robust Cichlids. This rules out all peaceful interaction between the fish and in my personal opinion that isn't how you should keep your pets, and it gets old pretty quickly. Perhaps it's just my own personal taste, but I'd prefer a bustling little community of fish with the odd scuffle here and there as opposed to 60 gallons of Salvini Nazi Regime.

It may differ from fish to fish but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd look into any Central Americans that grow from 4-10" that are peaceful, mildly aggressive, or semi-aggressive.

They'll probably be listed under the genus Amphilophus online. I'm not overly knowledgeable about centrals but I think driftwood is using the very recently revised genus corrections. ;)

Thanks for your opinions!!
I really like my sajicas and dont want them to be bullied, so no sals for me! Not now at least.
One of the reasons why i getting a new tank are that I already got fm´s togheter with the Sajicas. Doesnt work at all, the FM male are a psycho ( :headbang2 ) . But since they were first in the tank i´ll think it would be fair to move the Sajs to the new tank. Im gonna read up on Cryptoheros, would be cool to dedicate the tank to that family (or specie??) No convicts though:)

me thinks the mix idea is a bad one

Severums would be nice...or some peaceful geo's...
