awhile back i purchased c02 difffuser online. description is as follow 2-1/2 to 3" long glass with a spiral cyclinder inside glass housing with a ceramic or some porus white seal or cap. i wanted to diy c02, pop bottles tubing and some sugar and yeast. how efficient is this with the diffuser i purchased. i'm hoping that it works. is there anybody with expertise on the matter? can't really afford a tank and selnoids and all the attachments so my 55 gal will receive the proper c02.

You can use it with DIY CO2, but it won't solve the issue of consistency. The biggest problem people with DIY is inconsistent bubble rate. They usually end up going with a multiple bottle setup and still have large fluctuations.

If you search hard enough, you can find a decent pressurized setup for less than $100. In the long run, it'll be much cheaper than DIY.

In my experience DIY systems are a pain, and i actually was runnin two similiarly planted tanks. One with a diy system with a a glass diffuser, and the other with just doses of flourish excel.

after 2 months the flourish tank was much healthier, also less algae. I am running the same light and schedule on both tanks, and i also included a power head to distribute the co2 bubbles but no matter what i tried there was little luck.
